The first time you create an ad campaign, AdWords guides you through several steps where you’ll choose your ad campaign’s settings, write your first ad, and selectkeywords that you think your customers would use when they’re searching for information related to your products or services. Thinking about your customers’ preferences, habits, and traits can help you choose the right settings for your campaign – settings that can influence whether your ads reach the right people.

Picturing your customer

Create a mental profile of your audience or your customers. Here are some important areas to consider about your customers’ preferences and behavior:

Words and phrases they use to search online

Type of devices they use to browse the web

Favorite websites

Geographical location

Whether they tend to email you or call your business phone number

Tip

Before you dive into your first campaign, think about who your customers are, how much you want to spend to reach them with your ads, and what results you’re expecting for your campaign to be a success.

Creating a campaign

Choose campaign settings based on your audience or customer profile. You’ll also select the budget you want to spend each day to show your ads:

Sign in to your AdWords account at https://adwords.google.com.

Click Create your first campaign.

Create your first campaign

You’ll be taken to the “Select campaign settings” page. Choose your campaign settings.

Tip

Networks? Devices? Extensions? The settings you choose here cover three basic areas related to your ad.

How much you’ll pay
Bidding and budget

What, besides text and a link, to include in your ad
A business phone number, a map, even more links.Enhance your ad using extensions

Where you want ads to appear
Geographic locations, languages, websites (called Networks), devices (desktop, phone, tablet)

Click Save and continue. You can edit your campaign settings at any time.

Creating your ad and choosing keywords

After you’ve saved your campaign settings, you’ll be taken to the “Create ad and keywords” page.

Tip

While you can choose from multiple ad formats, newer advertisers may want to begin their AdWords journey with text ads. Writer’s block? Discover tips for creating successful ads.

Website Value is decreasing for millions

What is my website worth today? There is an arrow a bit further down. Just click on it and it will take you to my site which will give you an immediate evaluation or simply read on first. Since Google introduced it’s Panda Update in early 2011, there are now millions of websites worth far less than they did before. You do not want your website to decrease in value, do you? If you check what price you could sell it for today you might be shocked. This is because people do not understand how websites are normally valued on online auctions. Some of the things that buyers are looking for are things like -1. Number of Daily Unique Visitors to your site every day
2. How many pages people view on your site every day
3. How popular is your site (authority often linked to Page Rank)
4. The earning potential.
5. The value of the topic of interest.

One of the ways to check how well a website is doing is to simply type the URL address into Webstats Art (link below)

Take some time to figure out what is currently going on in the world of domain and website evaluation. After reading this lens it might be possible that several people will redirect their efforts. It will be interesting to see the most intelligent feedback on the questions that this lens is asking. This is because the questions and answers are continually evolving. Have you ever taken the time to think about what you are doing on the web? What is going to benefit you in the short term and the long term? What are others doing? What do they think?

As more and more people flock to shop on the web, there has never been a better time to start an online business. It is estimated that over 40% of all households in the USA are making online purchases!

So how do you go about setting up your own online business and capitalizing on this emerging trend?

There are three major steps to setting up your online business:

1. Registering your business

This involves some offline work. Start by deciding what type of business you wish to form (sole proprietorship, general partnership, limited partnership, C corporation, S corporation, limited liability corporation), and then registering it. In general, I advise staying away from sole proprietorships and general partnerships. The risk of being lumped with debts and obligations from the business is just too great!

A company called Legal Zoom provides an online incorporation service for all 51 States . The online part of this process involves registering a domain name. Godaddy is a good option. To find more business-related registration and tax forms, a very helpful site is AllBusiness.com

2. Sourcing Stock

The next stage of the process involves sourcing your products.

If you haven’t already, now is the time to carry out that all-essential market research. With fuel costs on the rise, an increasing number of people are purchasing all types of goods online; everything from clothes, books, and electronics through to necessities like groceries and household supplies. However, online businesses supplying these needs are also proliferating. It’s vital that you establish demand for your product before you proceed too far. Once you are confident that there is a demand you can fill, it’s time to find a supplier. There are a number of supply possibilities: wholesalers, drop shippers and overstock/liquidation sales are all fantastic ways to source products.

At this point it is essential that you consider order fulfilment. One feature of good customer service is making sure that the customer receives their purchase as quickly as possible. The longer the customer has to wait, the less likely they are to return to you to buy. Check how quickly your suppliers can re-order and deliver stock. No matter how small your business, you need to be able to cope with a sudden large order should it occur. It’s very important to compare prices when finding your supplier.

Don’t forget that online buyers often expect online products to be slightly cheaper than retail prices. It’s important to do accurate costings for all of your stock (including shipping and transit costs) to make sure that your profit margins are viable.

Product suppliers of non-brand name products such as toys, furniture, jewelry and clothing can be found online at sites such as Alibaba. Asia is fast becoming a great source of wholesale products and finding these suppliers online is an easy first stop.

For brand name products, you are unlikely to find sources online (and be wary of any online sites purporting to sell brand names). Legitimate brand name sources will generally be in the USA or UK and you will need to contact them directly by telephone to be taken seriously.

When you make initial contact with your suppliers, be prepared with all the important data about your business. You must have a good business plan that includes a well-thought out marketing plan and carefully prepared financial forecasts. The supplier will want to be sure you can shift the stock before they agree to do business with you. It’s quite usual, and indeed safer, to have more than one supplier, particularly if you are stocking an array of products.

3. How will you sell your product?

Many people don’t actually realize just how many ways there are to sell products online. You can sell your stock through your own website, through an auction site and using classified ads. Create your own store design, your own shopping website, purchase a turnkey store, or use a ready-made store and promote the products of others (e.g. Amazon) or sell through an Auction site. eBay is the first auction site that everyone thinks of, but Yahoo and Amazon also have strong auction sales. Auction sites include:

eBay

Amazon

Your own web site

Online Classifieds

Many people find selling by online classifieds a great way of doing business, especially when offering a locally-based product or service. Craig’s List is fast becoming a force to be reckoned with but it’s certainly not the only option! See below for links:

Everybody’s favorite open-source browser, Firefox, is great right out of the box. And by adding some of the awesome extensions available out there, the browser just gets better and better.

But look under the hood, and there are a bunch of hidden (and some not-so-secret) tips and tricks available that will crank Firefox up and pimp your browser. Make it faster, cooler, more efficient. Get to be a Jedi master with the following cool Firefox tricks.

1) More screen space. Make your icons small. Go to View – Toolbars – Customize and check the “Use small icons” box.

2) Smart keywords. If there’s a search you use a lot (let’s say IMDB.com’s people search), this is an awesome tool that not many people use. Right-click on the search box, select “Add a Keyword for this search”, give the keyword a name and an easy-to-type and easy-to-remember shortcut name (let’s say “actor”) and save it. Now, when you want to do an actor search, go to Firefox’s address bar, type “actor” and the name of the actor and press return. Instant search! You can do this with any search box.

3) Keyboard shortcuts. This is where you become a real Jedi. It just takes a little while to learn these, but once you do, your browsing will be super fast. Here are some of the most common (and my personal favs):

Spacebar (page down)

Shift-Spacebar (page up)

Ctrl+F (find)

Alt-N (find next)

Ctrl+D (bookmark page)

Ctrl+T (new tab)

Ctrl+K (go to search box)

Ctrl+L (go to address bar)

Ctrl+= (increase text size)

Ctrl+- (decrease text size)

Ctrl-W (close tab)

F5 (reload)

Alt-Home (go to home page)

4) Auto-complete. This is another keyboard shortcut, but it’s not commonly known and very useful. Go to the address bar (Control-L) and type the name of the site without the “www” or the “.com”. Let’s say “google”. Then press Control-Enter, and it will automatically fill in the “www” and the “.com” and take you there – like magic! For .net addresses, press Shift-Enter, and for .org addresses, press Control-Shift-Enter.

5) Tab navigation. Instead of using the mouse to select different tabs that you have open, use the keyboard. Here are the shortcuts:

Ctrl+Tab (rotate forward among tabs)

Ctrl+Shft+Tab (rotate to the previous tab)

Ctrl+1-9 (choose a number to jump to a specific tab)

6) Mouse shortcuts. Sometimes you’re already using your mouse and it’s easier to use a mouse shortcut than to go back to the keyboard. Master these cool ones:

Middle click on link (opens in new tab)

Shift-scroll down (previous page)

Shift-scroll up (next page)

Ctrl-scroll up (decrease text size)

Ctrl-scroll down (increase text size)

Middle click on a tab (closes tab)

7) Delete items from address bar history. Firefox’s ability to automatically show previous URLs you’ve visited, as you type, in the address bar’s drop-down history menu is very cool. But sometimes you just don’t want those URLs to show up (I won’t ask why). Go to the address bar (Ctrl-L), start typing an address, and the drop-down menu will appear with the URLs of pages you’ve visited with those letters in them. Use the down-arrow to go down to an address you want to delete, and press the Delete key to make it disappear.

User chrome. If you really want to trick out your Firefox, you’ll want to create a UserChrome.css file and customize your browser. It’s a bit complicated to get into here, but check out this tutorial.

9) Create a user.js file. Another way to customize Firefox, creating a user.js file can really speed up your browsing. You’ll need to create a text file named user.js in your profile folder (see this to find out where the profile folder is) and see this example user.js file that you can modify. Created bytechlifeweb.com, this example explains some of the things you can do in its comments.

10) about:config. The true power user’s tool, about.config isn’t something to mess with if you don’t know what a setting does. You can get to the main configuration screen by putting about:config in the browser’s address bar. See Mozillazine’s about:config tips and screenshots.

11) Add a keyword for a bookmark. Go to your bookmarks much faster by giving them keywords. Right-click the bookmark and then select Properties. Put a short keyword in the keyword field, save it, and now you can type that keyword in the address bar and it will go to that bookmark.

12) Speed up Firefox. If you have a broadband connection (and most of us do), you can use pipelining to speed up your page loads. This allows Firefox to load multiple things on a page at once, instead of one at a time (by default, it’s optimized for dialup connections). Here’s how:

Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit return. Type “network.http” in the filter field, and change the following settings (double-click on them to change them):

Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to a number like 30. This will allow it to make 30 requests at once.

Also, right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0?. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

13) Limit RAM usage. If Firefox takes up too much memory on your computer, you can limit the amount of RAM it is allowed to us. Again, go to about:config, filter “browser.cache” and select “browser.cache.disk.capacity”. It’s set to 50000, but you can lower it, depending on how much memory you have. Try 15000 if you have between 512MB and 1GB ram.

14) Reduce RAM usage further for when Firefox is minimized. This setting will move Firefox to your hard drive when you minimize it, taking up much less memory. And there is no noticeable difference in speed when you restore Firefox, so it’s definitely worth a go. Again, go to about:config, right-click anywhere and select New-> Boolean. Name it “config.trim_on_minimize” and set it to TRUE. You have to restart Firefox for these settings to take effect.

15) Move or remove the close tab button. Do you accidentally click on the close button of Firefox’s tabs? You can move them or remove them, again through about:config. Edit the preference for “browser.tabs.closeButtons”. Here are the meanings of each value:

0: Display a close button on the active tab only

1:(Default) Display close buttons on all tabs

2:Don’t display any close buttons

3:Display a single close button at the end of the tab bar (Firefox 1.x behavior)

You haven’t use firefox?

The design has been created, the respective PSD has been converted into HTML/CSS code of the WordPress based website, and your hosting company has installed it on their servers. Now you can share your thoughts and information about you or your company with the world. Everything is great and exciting, excepting one thing – spam in comments. How to administer it?

Why Spammers Like WordPress-Powered Websites

The first reason is WordPress’ ubiquity: today WordPress is the most popular content management system (CMS) on the Internet. WordPress is used by about 16% of all the sites. It holds almost 54% of the CMS market, which is more than 5 times greater than the share of the nearest CMS competitor.

Secondly, WordPress code and structure are well-known: it is a thoroughly documented open-source project, there are a lot of good tutorials and guides. Thirdly, some of WordPress peculiarities make it quite simple to automate placing spammy comments.

As a result, WordPress based websites are an attractive target for spammers. Inexpensive spam-sending software makes the problem even worse.

To be exact, WordPress adds the attribute
rel="nofollow"
to each link in comments and in this way decreases their value for search engines. But this doesn’t stop spammers: if they gain a lot of such links, it might still help to rank better in Google.

How to Disable Comments

The first anti-spam recipe is simple and categorical: turn off comments. Just log in as an admin and find the menu item Settings > Discussion in the WordPress dashboard:

At the top of the Discussion Settings page you can see an option that allows you to stop posting comments on new articles:

How to Monitor Comments

Truth be told, I agree with Wikipedia that blocking comments is not the best way, especially for blogs:

“Although not a must, most good quality blogs are interactive, allowing visitors to leave comments and even message each other via GUI widgets on the blogs and it is this interactivity that distinguishes them from other static websites.”

Moreover, when a blog post has new comments it is a good sign for visitors and Google that the post may be worth reading and ranking higher.

So if you decide not to switch off commenting but don’t want to turn your website into a trash dump, you have to administer your website comments:

Usually spam comments are not difficult to recognize. Often they are abstract and tell about high quality of your post and/or its topic and at the same time say absolutely nothing about concrete details. Also, spammers like phrases about how happy they are to find your post (after so long search on the Internet!), that friends / brothers / nephews / etc. have attracted their attention to your post, and now they follow your site and would visit it many times in the future. Or they ask you where the RSS button is placed while it is one of the most visible icon on your website. And so on, and so forth.

How to Ban Specific IP’s, URL’s or Words

WordPress provides a very effective tool to strike back: Comment Blacklist. With its help you can ban importunate spammers by their IP, URL, e-mail, name or keywords:

For example, our blog is about PSD to HTML conversion and web design. Therefore, our blacklist includes such words as
"dating, loan, xanax, uggs"
and many other keywords which have absolutely nothing in common with PSD to HTML coding. The comment blacklist is the best place for IP’s which are the most spammy. In our case among them are addresses which begin with 173.163.11 (173.163.11.67, 173.163.11.68, etc.), 173.208, 178.238 and some others. An effective way to fight against annoying spammers may be to ban their domains or e-mails.

Please note: this option will match inside words and, for example, “press” will match “WordPress” too, so don’t be overzealous!

How to Turn Off Comments for Individual Posts

From time to time you may find out that some of your old posts become too “popular” among spammers. To get rid of their attacks you can turn off comments for specific articles. To that end you should go to the Edit page for such a post and switch on showing on screen the section Discussion:

and

and then disallow comments for this post:

After this operation new comments will be automatically marked as spam.

Other Anti-Spam Tools

The method described above is the simplest way to administer spammy comments. It may be quite sufficient, at least as a first approximation. However, there are also other means to fight spammers such as special WordPress plugins, as well as server-side settings and coding.

For example, Akismet anti-spam plugin checks comments whether they look like spam and lets you review results in the admin dashboard. This plugin transmits new comments to the Akismet cloud web servers, where they are run through hundreds of tests. In this way Akismet decreases time that is spent on sorting through and deleting spam in comments. Note: Akismet is free for personal blogs, but if you have a business site or promote products or services, you should use paid subscriptions.

Can You Stop Spam Completely?

There is no approach or tool which is able to completely eliminate spam. Therefore, if you allow commenting, be ready to spend some time on comment moderation. Nevertheless, using proper settings and improving the comment blacklist on a regular basis, you may decrease that time to the quite acceptable level. On the other hand, just remember that you can disallow comments at any time.

Conclusion

Not all spammers are ill-intentioned, some of them are ordinary small business owners who just believe that spam can help them to reach top positions in Google. So, one more tip: take it easy and in a creative manner. For example, like Linzie Hunter for whom the subject line of spam e-mails is a source of inspiration in creating a series of typographic lettering:

Apple said Monday it would start marketing its new iPad on Friday in South Korea and 11 other countries, and the hot-selling tablet would be available in more than 50 countries by the end of the month.

The April 20 launch of the third-generation iPad will be in South Korea, Brunei, Croatia, Cyprus, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Malaysia, Panama, St Maarten, Uruguay and Venezuela.

By April 27, the new tablet will be available in Colombia, Estonia, India, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Montenegro, South Africa and Thailand.

Apple launched the device last month and sold three million over the course of its first weekend on the market.

China has been noticeably absent from an iPad release schedule, and some analysts said it may be the result of a nettlesome trademark battle with Chinese computer firm Proview Technology.

Debt-laden Proview is suing Apple in China for trademark violation for calling its tablet computer “iPad.”
